WHERE THE [bleep] IS MY AIR SUPPORT: Why I love Kikyo
Why I love KikyoKikyo is a jilted lover. And if Japanese myth and legend has taught us anything, it’s that jilted lovers usually turn into vengeful spirits. (she basically stays so until the finale act, to long for a character development to happen.)
And for awhile that is exactly what she is.(all episodes) She feeds off the souls of innocent dead to maintain her incarnation, tries to steal Kagome’s spirit, (and kill her) hands jewel shards over to Naraku and attempts to drag Inuyasha into the afterlife with her. I totally understand why a lot of fans absolutely hate her. (was not thankful to Kagome when she saved her)
But look at it from her point of view for a moment. She was willing to give up everything to be with Inuyasha, (willing? try wanted and Inuyasha was her way out. She was using him for her freedom, just happened to also love him) and as far as she knows, he in return tried to kill her and steal the jewel (yet when she learned the truth, her feelings still stayed the same). Now Kikyo is not just a fairweather priestess. She is zealous and devout. She never let anything hold her back from doing what was right.(like stealing Kagomes soul to exact her revenge even if it meant Kagomes death? yeah.) This perceived betrayal by Inuyasha not only hurt her emotionally, but it was wrong and it filled her with righteous indignation. She could not let this would-be murderer and thief escape justice, and so she put a stop to his actions (or so she thought). And it was the witch Urasue (sp?) who resurrected Kikyo. It was then that Kikyo realized the job had not been done. Justice had not been fully carried out. And she is the kind of person who is so dedicated to doing the right thing that in her mind, the ends justify the means.(she didn’t want to kill him because it was the right thing to do, she wanted to get justice for her death and was blinded by rage) But she was not evil.(actually she was) She went around villages healing the sick and tending to wounded soldiers.(arguably not because she thought it was the right thing to do, but because it made her feel human again) And when she found out the truth about what had happened to her, she actually helped Inuyasha and Kagome fight Naraku.(again, thats very arguable. The amount of times she actually messed things up by trying to do so was annoying. She even nearly killed Inuyasha with the repercussions from her actions) I’m convinced they wouldn’t have been able to stop him without the aid of her purifying magic. (yes they would have! Kagome and Sesshomaru brought naraku down. Kikyos light was so microscopic that all it did was save Kohaku)
And this is why, in three days, I will be cosplaying Kikyo at Texancon. Don’t worry my lovelies - there will be pictures. (joy.)
